„Na Európsky dvor audítorov som nastúpil v roku 2006. Ako audítor pracujem na politike súdržnosti a výročnej správe o výkonnosti, ktorá poskytuje celkové posúdenie pridanej hodnoty programov EÚ.

Medzi moje úlohy patrí plánovanie auditov, hodnotenie dôkazov, preskúmavanie širokej škály dokumentov, vypracúvanie správ, ako aj vykonávanie kontrol na mieste, ktoré sa týkajú orgánov a príjemcov v členských štátoch. Naším hlavným pracovným jazykom je angličtina, ale hovoríme aj niekoľkými ďalšími jazykmi. Dobré komunikačné a organizačné zručnosti sú pre moju prácu nevyhnutné.

V minulosti som sa venoval inžinierstvu, neskôr štúdiu v oblasti verejnej správy. Taktiež som získal kvalifikáciu certifikovaného vnútorného audítora na Inštitúte vnútorných audítorov a následne som ukončil druhý stupeň vysokoškolského štúdia v odbore riadenia a poradenstva v oblasti auditu. Pred nástupom na Európsky dvor audítorov som pracoval ako projektový manažér a vnútorný audítor v priemyselných organizáciách.“

What does an EU auditor do?

An EU auditor assures that taxpayer money is spent correctly and that it gives real value to EU citizens.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy the most is the different kinds of actions taken by the EU and that I get to audit them. Every day you get to learn something new, and I find that really exciting.

One tip for someone considering applying to the audit competition?

I would suggest getting to know the programs and the actions taken by the EU, getting sense of the overall picture of what’s done and how it’s enacted in the member states and across the world.

What does an EU auditor do?

At the European Court of Auditors, we are the guardians of the EU's finances. We conduct financial and performance audits to check if money is accounted for and if it's delivering true value. My job involves analysing complex programmes and meeting international partners to ensure EU support delivers real results, both inside and outside the Union. 

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I love the most is the tangible impact and the international scope. Recently, I audited health systems in Burundi and Zimbabwe, focusing on sustainability and coordination. It is incredibly rewarding to issue recommendations that directly improve how funding is allocated, knowing my work leads to better, lasting outcomes for people on the ground.

One tip for someone considering applying to the audit competition?

For this level, we need professionals who can think strategically about performance and risk. My tip is to study the EU financial regulation and read a few of our recent audit reports to understand our methodology and tone. If you want a career where your expertise drives real change, apply today.

What I enjoy the most is definitely interacting with the colleagues, with the auditee, having interviews with them and then helping them to deliver even more effective and efficient results.

I would say start preparing early, read the notice of competition, understand what the tests are about and then good luck! I’m sure you will make it!

Pracujem ako audítor v Európskej komisii, čo je zaujímavá a napĺňajúca práca. Naším hlavným cieľom je zaručiť správne a zákonné využívanie peňazí daňových poplatníkov EÚ. Zároveň dohliadam na riadne fungovanie systémov a na dodržiavanie pravidiel.

Jednou z najzaujímavejších súčastí mojej práce je interakcia s prijímateľmi finančných prostriedkov EÚ vo všetkých krajinách EÚ (a dokonca aj mimo nich), s ktorými sa stretávam počas kontrol na mieste. Rovnako zaujímavá je aj spolupráca s kolegami z ostatných útvarov Európskej komisie, ktorá nám audítorom umožňuje získať prehľad o činnostiach Európskej komisie.
