«Empecé a trabajar en el Tribunal de Cuentas Europeo en 2006. Soy auditor y trabajo en la política de cohesión y en el informe anual de rendimiento, que presenta una evaluación global del valor añadido de los programas de la UE.

Mis funciones consisten en la planificación de auditorías, la evaluación de pruebas, la revisión de documentos de todo tipo, la elaboración de informes y la realización de visitas in situ a las autoridades y los beneficiarios de los Estados miembros. Nuestra lengua de trabajo principal es el inglés, pero también hablamos otras lenguas. Para mi trabajo son esenciales una buena capacidad de comunicación y de organización.

Tras mi formación como ingeniero, hice estudios de administración pública. También tengo un título de auditor interno certificado del Instituto de Auditores Internos y un máster en gestión de auditoría y consultoría. Antes de incorporarme al Tribunal de Cuentas Europeo, trabajé como gestor de proyectos y auditor interno en organizaciones industriales».

What does an EU auditor do?

An EU auditor assures that taxpayer money is spent correctly and that it gives real value to EU citizens.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy the most is the different kinds of actions taken by the EU and that I get to audit them. Every day you get to learn something new, and I find that really exciting.

One tip for someone considering applying to the audit competition?

I would suggest getting to know the programs and the actions taken by the EU, getting sense of the overall picture of what’s done and how it’s enacted in the member states and across the world.

What does an EU auditor do?

At the European Court of Auditors, we are the guardians of the EU's finances. We conduct financial and performance audits to check if money is accounted for and if it's delivering true value. My job involves analysing complex programmes and meeting international partners to ensure EU support delivers real results, both inside and outside the Union. 

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I love the most is the tangible impact and the international scope. Recently, I audited health systems in Burundi and Zimbabwe, focusing on sustainability and coordination. It is incredibly rewarding to issue recommendations that directly improve how funding is allocated, knowing my work leads to better, lasting outcomes for people on the ground.

One tip for someone considering applying to the audit competition?

For this level, we need professionals who can think strategically about performance and risk. My tip is to study the EU financial regulation and read a few of our recent audit reports to understand our methodology and tone. If you want a career where your expertise drives real change, apply today.

What I enjoy the most is definitely interacting with the colleagues, with the auditee, having interviews with them and then helping them to deliver even more effective and efficient results.

I would say start preparing early, read the notice of competition, understand what the tests are about and then good luck! I’m sure you will make it!

Soy auditor en la Comisión Europea, un trabajo muy estimulante y productivo. Nuestro objetivo principal es garantizar que el dinero de los contribuyentes de la UE se utiliza debidamente y de acuerdo con la ley. También ejerzo funciones de supervisión para comprobar el correcto funcionamiento de los sistemas y el cumplimiento de las normas.

Uno de los aspectos más interesantes de mi trabajo es interactuar con los beneficiarios de la financiación de la UE en todos los países de la Unión (e incluso fuera de ella) a través de las inspecciones sobre el terreno en sus oficinas. Trabajar con colegas de todos los servicios de la Comisión Europea es también fascinante, ya que nos permite a los auditores tener una visión general de las actividades de la Comisión Europea.
