”Jag började jobba på Europeiska revisionsrätten 2006. I mitt jobb som revisor arbetar jag med sammanhållningspolitiken och den årliga prestationsrapporten, som innehåller en allmän bedömning av EU-programmens mervärde.

Mina arbetsuppgifter är bland annat att planera revisioner, bedöma fakta, gå igenom en mängd handlingar, skriva rapporter och besöka myndigheter och stödmottagare i medlemsländerna. Vi arbetar främst på engelska men vi pratar också flera andra språk. Att man är bra på att kommunicera och organisera är viktigt i mitt jobb.

Jag har läst tekniska ämnen och därefter offentlig förvaltning. Jag är också auktoriserad internrevisor hos Institute of Internal Auditors och har en masterexamen i revisionsförvaltning och rådgivning. Innan jag började på revisionsrätten jobbade jag som projektledare och internrevisor i olika industriorganisationer.”

What does an EU auditor do?

An EU auditor assures that taxpayer money is spent correctly and that it gives real value to EU citizens.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy the most is the different kinds of actions taken by the EU and that I get to audit them. Every day you get to learn something new, and I find that really exciting.

One tip for someone considering applying to the audit competition?

I would suggest getting to know the programs and the actions taken by the EU, getting sense of the overall picture of what’s done and how it’s enacted in the member states and across the world.

What does an EU auditor do?

At the European Court of Auditors, we are the guardians of the EU's finances. We conduct financial and performance audits to check if money is accounted for and if it's delivering true value. My job involves analysing complex programmes and meeting international partners to ensure EU support delivers real results, both inside and outside the Union. 

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I love the most is the tangible impact and the international scope. Recently, I audited health systems in Burundi and Zimbabwe, focusing on sustainability and coordination. It is incredibly rewarding to issue recommendations that directly improve how funding is allocated, knowing my work leads to better, lasting outcomes for people on the ground.

One tip for someone considering applying to the audit competition?

For this level, we need professionals who can think strategically about performance and risk. My tip is to study the EU financial regulation and read a few of our recent audit reports to understand our methodology and tone. If you want a career where your expertise drives real change, apply today.

What I enjoy the most is definitely interacting with the colleagues, with the auditee, having interviews with them and then helping them to deliver even more effective and efficient results.

I would say start preparing early, read the notice of competition, understand what the tests are about and then good luck! I’m sure you will make it!

Jag jobbar som revisor på EU-kommissionen, ett mycket spännande och tillfredsställande jobb. Vårt främsta mål är att se till att skattebetalarnas pengar används korrekt och lagligt i EU. Jag utöver också tillsyn för att se till att systemen fungerar korrekt och att reglerna följs.

En av de mest intressanta aspekterna av mitt jobb är att träffa mottagarna av EU-pengarna i alla EU-länder (och även utanför EU) när jag besöker dem på plats. Att samarbeta med kollegor från andra avdelningar inom EU-kommissionen är också fascinerande eftersom det ger oss revisorer en helhetsbild av vad kommissionen gör.
