Mio, European Commission
“My name is Mio, and I am Croat. I like Luxembourg very much since, although very modern, it is still developing and there is always something new to experience. My fear of languages disappeared since I found here a multilingual culture so, missing to speak some of the languages is completely normal
Before I became a Safeguards inspector, I was working in Nuclear Power Plants and in one research center on positions where improving the nuclear safety was the most important goal. After joining the EURATOM inspectors’ team in Luxembourg, I learned a lot about Nuclear Safeguards, and this made a big shift in my perception of the nuclear world. This job is enormously important. It has a high level of responsibility, a fair level of independence and a lot of inspections around the EU to fulfil my idea of a great job.
Moreover, the work environment with colleagues who are always happy to share their experience and take some time for new colleagues, make this job even greater.”

Gregor, European Parliament
“My name is Gregor, and I serve as Head of the Climate Action Research and Tracking Service within the European Parliament Research Service, leading a team of four experts focused on EU and international climate policy.
Our team handles requests from Members of the European Parliament, providing information and analysis, and drafting publications to support their legislative work. The European Green Deal and its related legislation have kept us quite busy over the last five years!
We have conducted in-depth analyses of climate policy achievements in each EU Member State, and are currently examining their strategies to meet the ambitious climate targets for 2030 and to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
What I love about my job is working with international experts and approaching policy challenges from diverse perspectives—scientific, economic, social, legal, financial, and political. This multidisciplinary focus, along with ensuring quality output and meeting tight deadlines, keeps the work dynamic and rewarding.
A career highlight for me was a mission to Niger with Parliament's President, where my task was to organise a round-table on renewable energy with African and European experts. Further, I am also the lead auditor for the European Parliament’s environmental management system—a role that connects me with various units across the institution and enables me to contribute to enhancing our environmental performance.”

Paulo, The Joint Research Centre
“Empowering millions of Europeans to have a say in the future of the EU is an objective I am proud to be working towards.
As a policy analyst at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, I have been designing and implementing innovative online platforms for participatory democracy.
I am inspired by the potential of technology to bridge the gap between citizens and policymakers, and I am committed to harnessing this potential to create a more citizen-centric EU.”

Daria, The Joint Research Centre
“I am a purpose-led professional with a background as an industrial economist and public affairs specialist. Currently, I am Team Leader for Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at the JRC.
What I love about this exciting working environment—and about my current role—is the diversity of key interconnected industrial dossiers I work on, and their impact on policies.”

Jette, The Joint Research Centre
“In my daily work at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, I am looking into the socio-economics of transport decarbonisation.
My job offers all it takes to make me thrive: the challenge of rethinking a system as complex as transport, and of developing scenarios on what its future could look like; the chance to make a contribution to a decarbonised Europe and to have a direct impact on EU policy, by helping policy makers to get the scientific basis right; plus the richness of working in a truly interdisciplinary, international and very cooperative team — a winning combination.”

Liesbet, The Joint Research Centre
“As a biomedical scientist at the Joint Research Centre, I am proud to be part of a team that bridges the gap between science and policy.
We empower EU decision-makers with reliable data, tools, and expertise that will help build resilient healthcare systems and safeguard the health and well-being of Europeans.
This job also allows me to learn and specialise in various domains, as we collaborate with top experts from across Europe and the globe.”

Jaime, The Joint Research Centre
“As an engineer, I have always had a passion for improving people’s lives through the use of technology. My job gives me the opportunity to improve the lives of 450 million European citizens every single day!
Working at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre allows me to use my engineering skills to support EU policies in space applications and telecommunications.
With access to state-of-the-art research facilities and a pool of incredibly talented colleagues, I can contribute to fascinating projects that shape Europe’s future in space and terrestrial communications. That is what I call a dream job!”

Josep, The Joint Research Centre
“At the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, I can work at the forefront of technology for the common good—a unique combination.
My team conducts applied research to support EU policies and regulations on AI and digital platforms.
As part of our mission, we have to analyse and understand some of the most advanced AI systems and algorithms, with a tremendous impact on how we perceive the world and interact with one another. In essence, we use science and technology to make the online world safer, and to support the uptake of AI in Europe.”

Raul, The Joint Research Centre
“After 20 years in the private sector, I wanted to contribute directly to societal well-being. At the JRC, I work on implementing data initiatives that enable the effective use of data for analytics and artificial intelligence.
Through my work, and that of my colleagues, I can make a real impact by supporting evidence-based policy making across many important topics for society, such as climate change and health.
Beyond the rewarding work, the JRC’s inclusive and multicultural environment fosters collaboration with diverse experts, creating a workplace where innovation thrives.”

Nicola, The Joint Research Centre
“To be successful in averting the climate crisis, we need policymakers and scientists to work together. That is what makes my job at the Joint Research Centre so special: we work right at the boundary between science and policy. My team’s research on the raw materials needed for the energy transitions contributes much needed evidence and data on how to make our net-zero future a reality and drive the EU to become more sustainable, resilient and secure.”
