EPSO selection procedures – towards a full 24 language regime

Following the decision by EPSO’s Management Board (EPSO’s interinstitutional governing body) at the end of 2023, EPSO is now getting ready to start running its selection procedures under a full 24 language regime. In practice, this means that EPSO will enhance further its commitment to multilingualism, making sure that all tests will be made available in the EU’s 24 official languages. This was already part of EPSO’s commitment when the new competition model was announced in early 2023.

Selection procedures published by EPSO as of 2024, will provide candidates with the possibility of doing all their tests in any one of the EU’s 24 official languages. The requirement to use two different languages for taking the selection tests in any given competition continues to apply. Specific conditions apply to competitions for linguistic profiles. For details, always refer to the respective Notice of Competition.

Selection procedures published in 2023, whose testing sessions have not started yet (e.g. competitions in the fields of Transport and Nuclear energy) will also have their Notices of Competition amended accordingly. This will not be applicable to ongoing competitions whose testing sessions have already started.

Update (15 March 2024): This may also be applicable to ongoing competitions published by EPSO in 2023, and whose testing sessions have already started. (When EPSO first communicated about this on 6 February 2024, this possibility was not foreseen.)

Update (18 April 2024): Please note that the full 24-language regime does not apply to CAST selection procedures the same way it applies to open competitions where candidates choose ‘Language 1’ and ‘Language 2’ for their tests. Under CAST, candidates could always choose to pass the verbal and numerical tests in any of the 24 EU official languages. In this case, only one language among the 24 EU official languages may be chosen for those tests.
