Find below some of the several traineeships the European Investment Bank (EIB) offers in Luxembourg.

 

Traineeship and Graduate programmes

They give you the chance to gain professional experience in your chosen field of studies, with the added benefit of getting an understanding of the Bank’s work.

They have a duration of three to five months (six months if requested by universities).

Eligibility

To be eligible, you will either need to be:

  • at your final year at university,

or

  • a graduate with less than one year of work experience (since the last degree, excluding internships),

and

  • an EU citizen or a candidate country citizen.
  • proficient in English and/or French (knowledge of other EU languages will be an advantage).

Admission dates

1 February and 1 September. These are typically announced approximately four months before each intake. 

You will be responsible for your own accommodation, but they will pay you a flat-rate monthly allowance to help with living costs and provide reimbursement of travel expenses (one round trip from your point of origin).

Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment Partnership (FEMIP) Traineeship Programme

FEMIP traineeship Programme aims to build human capacity in the Mediterranean Partner Countries by offering opportunities to young talented candidates, who wish to contribute towards improving people’s lives by promoting economic and social progress in the Mediterranean Partner Countries.

They launch the programme each year in autumn for Partner Countries that have entered into a Framework Agreement with the European Investment Bank (Algeria, Egypt, Palestine*, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia).

The goal of our FEMIP Traineeship Programme is to offer successful candidates an opportunity to improve their skills as well as an experience of working in an international multicultural environment.

This programme, funded by the FEMIP Trust Fund, looks for candidates specialising in a field relevant to international investment and development banking, such as:

  • finance (in particular project finance, SME financing, credit and risk analysis)
  • economics (micro/macroeconomics, development, statistics, job market analysis)
  • environment, engineering (ports, roads, energy, etc.) or urban planning

Eligibility

To be eligible, you need to be:

  • a student at the final year of a course at an institute of higher education, or a recent graduate, with less than two years of relevant experience,
  • national of the Mediterranean Partner Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Palestine*, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia).

Generally, successful candidates will have enrolled on a graduate study programme pursuing a master’s degree and already have some work experience.

In addition, you must meet the following criteria:

  • demonstrated ability to conduct analytical work, exercise good judgment and work as part of a team
  • proficiency in English and/or French; knowledge of FEMIP languages would be an advantage
  • some work experience would be an advantage (usually no more than two years)

Eastern Partnership Traineeship Programme funded by the Eastern Partnership Technical Assistance Trust Fund

A multiannual programme and its goal is to offer successful candidates an opportunity to improve their skills as well as the experience of working in an international multicultural environment.

The Programme, funded by the Eastern Partnership Technical Assistance Trust Fund, looks for candidates specialising in a field relevant to international investment and development banking, such as finance (in particular project finance, SME financing, credit and risk analysis) or economics (micro/macroeconomics, development, statistics, job market analysis) as well as environment, engineering (ports, roads, energy, etc.) or urban planning.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you will need to be:

  • national of the Eastern Partnership Countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).
  • graduated or at the final year of a course at an institute of higher education.

Generally, successful candidates will have enrolled on a graduate study programme (be pursuing a master’s degree) and already have some work experience.

In addition, you must meet the following criteria:

  • proficiency in English and/or French (knowledge of other East European languages would be an advantage);
  • demonstrated ability to conduct analytical work, exercise good judgment and work as part of a team;
  • some work experience would be an advantage (usually no more than two years);
  • no prior professional experience or in-house training for more than six weeks with other EU institutions, agencies or bodies.

The European Investment Bank provides a competitive remuneration package to all trainees, including a monthly stipend, insurance and reimbursement of travel expenses (one round trip from/to the point of origin/residence for up to 6 months traineeship or two in the case of 10 to 12 month assignments). Trainees will be responsible for their own living/accommodation costs.

Each successful candidate must commit to a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months in the Programme, to be spent at the European Investment Bank headquarters in Luxembourg or at one of the external offices. In the latter case, candidates may only apply for a position in a country of which they are not a resident/national.

 

Internships and summer jobs

The European Investment Bank offers opportunities for students in the form of short-term (two-four weeks) summer jobs and longer-term internships, which usually last between three and 12 months, depending on the programme.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you will either need to be:

  • in your final year at university,

or

  • a graduate with less than one year of work experience (since the last degree, excluding internships),

and

  • national of EU Member States and Candidate Countries whose membership negotiations have started (currently: Turkey, Serbia and Montenegro).
  • proficient in English and/or French (knowledge of other EU languages will be an advantage).

In addition, you must meet the following criteria:

  • demonstrated ability to conduct analytical work, exercise good judgment and work as part of a team

Generally, successful candidates will have enrolled on a graduate study programme (be pursuing a master’s degree).
