What has been the most rewarding project or initiative you have worked on at the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) and why?
One of the most rewarding areas of my work has been advancing EU-level understanding of drug market-related violence, particularly through exploring promising approaches to prevent the recruitment of young people into drug markets. Establishing a Community of Practice in this area has been especially meaningful, as it brings together researchers, policymakers and practitioners to share knowledge and develop practical responses. It is rewarding to see how methodological work can directly support more effective, coordinated and preventive action across countries.
How has working in a European and multicultural environment influenced the way you approach your work?
Working in a European agency has reinforced the importance of context, comparability and collaboration. Different countries experience and respond to drug (market)-related challenges in diverse ways and this requires an approach that is both scientifically rigorous and sensitive to local realities. It has strengthened my ability to integrate multiple perspectives - across disciplines, sectors and cultures - and to translate complex evidence into insights that are relevant and usable at European level.
What piece of advice would you give to someone interested in working in a European agency?
Be open to working across disciplines and perspectives - and invest in building both technical expertise and the ability to collaborate. Impact in a European context often comes from connecting knowledge, people and systems. It is also important to stay grounded in the real-world implications of your work - understanding how evidence can support better policies and ultimately improve people’s lives.
