The ERCEA offers many opportunities for professional evolution; for example, I started working in the Agency in a policy and data role before transitioning into driving the agency's AI adoption, which showed me firsthand how much scope there is for horizontal mobility and growth.
What does your role in the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA) involve?
I work in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Governance and ERCEA Solutions team, collaborating closely with the Agency-wide ERCEA AI Working Group and multidisciplinary teams of data scientists and engineers.
My role focuses on strategic AI adoption and providing expert ICT guidance to enhance our technological capabilities. I advise on advanced technologies, including machine learning and natural language processing, and support the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of AI solutions tailored to our agency's business and operational needs.
My responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with internal policies, ethical guidelines, and key EU regulations such as the AI Act.
What attracted you to ERCEA?
What appealed to me most was the opportunity to immerse myself in a vibrant, international, and multicultural environment where diverse minds pull together toward a common goal. Working at ERCEA means contributing to something far bigger than yourself, actively supporting the European Research Council's mission to back groundbreaking, excellent research that yields genuine societal impact. It is deeply inspiring to be part of the wider ERC ecosystem, knowing that the brilliant scientists and grantees we support push the boundaries of human knowledge and so frequently include world-renowned laureates, such as Nobel Prize winners.
What is it like to work at ERCEA?
Working at ERCEA feels like a natural extension of my own academic and research journey. Having spent years immersed in European research programmes, from developing assistive medical systems to teaching the next generation, I deeply resonate with ERCEA's vital mission: empowering top researchers to pursue bold, curiosity-driven ideas that push the boundaries of knowledge.
Even as an ICT Adviser focusing on AI, I never feel disconnected from that scientific core. Every technical strategy, data pipeline, and AI solution we build is designed to directly support and elevate that excellent research.
The ERCEA also offers many opportunities for professional evolution; for example, I started working in the Agency in a policy and data role before transitioning into driving the agency's AI adoption, which showed me firsthand how much scope there is for horizontal mobility and growth.
Why would you recommend the ERCEA to others?
I would recommend the ERCEA to anyone who is looking for meaningful work in an international and intellectually stimulating environment. From my own background in mathematics, IT and research, I find it a place where you can continue learning, collaborate with highly skilled colleagues, and contribute to something bigger than yourself by supporting excellent science across Europe.
