Working in EUDA has taught me the importance of understanding different views and the power of finding consensus. I learned to be flexible and build trust but also reinforced my commitment to the European values and the EU public service.
What has been the most rewarding project or initiative you have worked on at the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) and why?
One of the most rewarding activities I have been involved in at EUDA has been the assessment of the national focal points. EUDA works in close and continuous collaboration with the national focal points designated by the 27 EU Member States, as well as Norway and Türkiye. Each country appoints a national structure to act as the interface between national authorities and the Agency. As part of its mandate, EUDA is required to assess whether each national focal point (NFP) contributes to the achievement of the Agency’s objectives.
Over the past few years, I have participated in the assessments of all 29 NFPs. This has given me valuable insight into each country’s national specificities and has been a particularly enriching experience. I am thankful for the collaboration with all the teams I have met throughout this process.
How has working in a European and multicultural environment influenced the way you approach your work?
The role of coordinating a European network means that my activities are very diverse with regular unexpected events to manage, which is normal given the size and scope of the network. Working in EUDA has taught me the importance of understanding different views and the power of finding consensus. I learned to be flexible and build trust but also reinforced my commitment to the European values and the EU public service. I am working with great colleagues and some became friends. Proud of my job where there is no boring day!
What piece of advice would you give to someone interested in working in a European agency?
Working in a European institution is an opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of the EU citizens and communities. EU careers give the opportunity to learn continuously and work collaboratively across cultures, disciplines and languages. If you are open minded and EU passionate, go for it. It is a Babel tower and I don’t see myself working elsewhere!
