EISMEA is a place where you can bring your experience, share your ideas and contribute to something that makes a tangible difference for European citizens and beyond. It is a flexible working environment that encourages creativity and welcomes fresh perspectives.
What is your current role at the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), and what are your main responsibilities?
My main responsibility in the Internal Communication & Corporate Culture team is managing the agency’s intranet. I make sure that colleagues have easy access to clear, up-to-date information about life and work within EISMEA and across the EU institutions. Beyond that, my team and I work to strengthen EISMEA’s corporate culture and staff engagement. The goal is for everyone to feel part of the organisation, to know that their views matter and that their needs are understood and taken seriously. Working closely with HR, IT and Logistics, we help create a positive working environment where people feel valued, supported and motivated to contribute; this benefits both staff and the organisation.
What does a typical working day look like in your job?
Well, you might find me helping a team publish an intranet news item about its activities and achievements, or putting together our weekly newsletter. Another day, I could be running a training session to show colleagues how to use the latest digital tools to make everyday work simpler and more efficient. I might also be working with my team, HR, IT or Logistics to gather staff feedback on a particular topic or organise an agency-wide event.
And I get to do all this while splitting my time between our modern, recently renovated offices and the comfort of my own home!
What skills or previous experience have helped you most in your current position?
I studied Law in Athens and Bordeaux, and went on to do a Master’s in International Relations in Tokyo. I’ve worked in the shipping sector, for Japanese television and at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The most valuable things this journey taught me were how to learn quickly, adapt to new environments and appreciate different perspectives and ways of thinking. I believe these were all important qualities that helped me find my feet in the Internal Communication & Corporate Culture team. But I didn’t arrive with everything I needed. Over the years, I’ve also benefited from the many learning and development opportunities available at EISMEA and the European Commission, which have helped me strengthen my professional skills and grow as a person, to become a better colleague. It’s very much a two-way process: I brought my experience, and EISMEA helped me build on it.
How would you describe the working environment at EISMEA?
There’s genuine care for staff wellbeing, and it’s not just talk; it’s official policy. It’s a very open, flexible and egalitarian environment. We have lots of events and initiatives celebrating our colleagues and our achievements, plenty of staff-led activities, and a young workforce that brings a lot of energy. Our new offices add to that atmosphere, too; they’re modern, colourful and full of lovely spaces to meet, grab a coffee or lunch, or simply stop for a chat.
What advice would you give to someone considering applying to work at EISMEA?
I’d say, don’t think twice about it! EISMEA is a place where you can bring your experience, share your ideas and contribute to something that makes a tangible difference for European citizens and beyond. It is a flexible working environment that encourages creativity and welcomes fresh perspectives. And then, there’s more to EISMEA than the job itself. You’ll find a lively atmosphere, interesting colleagues and plenty of opportunities to get involved in activities, develop both professionally and personally, and build connections. That’s something I really value about working here.
