European integration has been central to my interests since my university days, so building my career within the EU felt like a natural choice. I could not have asked for a better workplace in an international public service.
What does your role in the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) involve?
At the Financial Unit responsible for the implementation of Horizon research programmes, I help to ensure that grant management is compliant with EU rules and well monitored throughout the whole grant lifecycle. I review contracts and reports, verify financial transactions, advise project beneficiaries and guide colleagues through internal procedures.
What do you appreciate the most about working in the EU institutions?
Working in EU institutions offers a unique career centered on shaping public policy. By contributing to critical domains such as climate change, digital transition and public health, I participate in future facing initiatives. Working daily with colleagues from 27 member states for Europe’s common good is both challenging and rewarding, as we build consensus out of diversity.
How has the Commission contributed to your learning and professional development?
I have had the chance to collaborate with several EU institutions, beginning with the Council during the first Polish Presidency in 2011 – an unforgettable time. Before working in operational finance for an executive agency, I helped manage the administrative budget at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). EU institutions offer great opportunities to evolve, which have motivated me to try new roles. Finally, I learn the most from everyday experiences and sharing ideas.
How would you describe the working culture and how does is impact your daily work experience?
HaDEA offers a pleasant, supportive and respectful environment where colleagues communicate openly and maintain a healthy work-life balance backed by flexible arrangements. We might face stressful moments but always find solutions through teamwork and a positive attitude. We get to work hard and have some fun along the way. On a higher level, the importance of European research keeps us engaged.
What has been your experience of living in Brussels?
I enjoy the energy of Brussels with all the cafés, music and events but I decided to move to Mechelen for a cozy place and a friendly small-town feel, while still staying close to the capital by a short train ride. All my favorite activities are short walk away now. Splitting my time between three days of telework here and two days in the Brussels office feels like the ideal balance.

Working for the EU offers diverse roles across different institutions and teams, ranging from high-level European policy to technical tasks in various domains. With many options to explore on a larger or smaller scale, it is an ideal career for anyone who has an interest in public service in an international environment and would like to contribute to the European project.
