Career mobility

During your career in the EU institutions, you’ll have the opportunity to

  • move to another policy or professional field
  • work in a different department or organisation
  • take up a role in another city or country

Career mobility across the EU institutions is encouraged. This flexibility helps permanent staff gain new experiences and broaden their perspectives throughout their careers.

Since my start in the General Secreteriat of the Council in 2014, I have changed position five times - the internal mobility opportunities within the Council allow people to explore very different roles and build varied careers without leaving the institution.

After passing my first EPSO competition, I joined the EU institutions in 2005 as a secretary at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation. Four years later, after another successful EPSO competition, I became a translator in the same unit. In 2015, I moved to my current role as an auditor at the ECA, a position I enjoy immensely. All three roles have been based in Luxembourg.
