Monika - Head of Organisational and Development Unit

With experience in organisational development, people, culture and change, Monika works at the Council as Head of the Organisational Development Unit. Since joining in 2014, she has built a varied career through internal mobility.

Since my start in the General Secreteriat of the Council in 2014, I have changed position five times - the internal mobility opportunities within the Council allow people to explore very different roles and build varied careers without leaving the institution.

Monika from Poland and France

What I appreciate most about working at the Council of the European Union is the people and the sense of connection across the institution. I’m fortunate to work with colleagues who are not only highly skilled, but also genuinely committed and generous in how they collaborate. That makes a real difference in a place as complex as this. I also value the diversity of the environment - working across so many cultures and professional backgrounds keeps things interesting and constantly broadens perspectives.

In my role as Head of the Organisational Development unit, I have had the chance to grow a lot professionally, particularly by working on initiatives that sit right at the intersection of people, culture, and organisational change. Since my start in the General Secreteriat of the Council in 2014, I have changed position five times - the internal mobility opportunities within the Council allow people to explore very different roles and build varied careers without leaving the institution.

For anyone thinking about joining the GSC, I would say: come with curiosity and openness. It’s a place where you can learn a lot, and often in unexpected ways. The work can be demanding and complex, but you are never doing it alone - you are surrounded by colleagues who are willing to share knowledge and support each other. And there is real room to grow, whether through formal development opportunities or by moving across teams and discovering new parts of the organisation.
