The European Union is supported by a unique network of organisations that work together to develop policies, adopt laws and implement programmes across Europe. These organisations include 7 EU Institutions, 9 specialised bodies and a wide range of agencies with specific roles.
Each contributes in a different way. Some focus on political decision-making and law-making, while others provide technical expertise, policy advice or operational support in areas such as health, transport, environment and security. Together, they help turn EU policies into concrete actions that benefit citizens across Europe.
Across this network, around 60,000 EU staff work to serve more than 450 million people, cooperating across countries, institutions and policy areas.
