What does working at the European Research Executive Agency (REA) mean to you?
What I value most about working at REA is this unique combination of public service, international teamwork and meaningful impact. It is motivating to work in an organisation that connects scientific ambition with sound management of public funds for the benefit of Europe’s citizens.
Working at REA has also given me the opportunity to contribute, in a very concrete way, to European research and innovation across three major framework programmes: FP7, Horizon 2020 and now Horizon Europe (FP7, the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, was the EU’s main research funding programme before Horizon 2020).
What do you enjoy most about working at REA?
It’s hard to pick just one thing, but I would say that it is the variety of roles and opportunities it has offered me so far. I have grown professionally within the agency thanks to internal mobility opportunities and the enriching experiences I have gathered by working with extraordinary managers, in a range of roles.
Can you tell us more about the different roles you have held?
I first worked in operational verification-related tasks for about 7 years, before contributing to HR selections and onboarding in the central People and Workplace horizontal unit. I then served as a financial initiator in the MSCA and Citizens, COFUND and Support Activities unit, ensuring that financial operations were handled accurately and in line with the Financial Regulation.
After that, I returned to operational verification in the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships unit, while also taking on complementary responsibilities as an M365 Champion and IT correspondent, helping colleagues and management access information efficiently, strengthening collaboration tools, improving access management and sharing digital knowledge across the unit. This diversity of responsibilities has allowed me to keep learning, stay curious and contribute in different ways to REA’s success.
How would you describe the culture at REA?
At REA I have always experienced a culture that promotes trust, growth and a healthy work-life balance. That balance has been essential to me, because alongside my professional role, my most important role is being a father.
REA has allowed me to develop my career while being present for my now 9-year-old child, whose curiosity and intellectual growth remind me every day of the importance of investing in the future. For me, REA is a place where commitment, humanity and purpose truly come together.
