What I have enjoyed most is gaining first-hand insight into how scientific advice and risk assessments are developed, while also having the opportunity to contribute to important projects and mandates.
What brought you to the European Food Security Authority (EFSA)?
As a food chemist with a research background in the risk assessment of micro and nanoplastics, I joined EFSA as a trainee to broaden my experience in an international environment. Being able to support the shift towards innovative, animal-free risk assessment of chemicals makes this experience especially meaningful to me.
What have you learned during your traineeship?
What I have enjoyed most is gaining first-hand insight into how scientific advice and risk assessments are developed, while also having the opportunity to contribute to important projects and mandates. Thanks to the close support and mentoring throughout my traineeship, I have always felt encouraged to learn, develop my skills and grow professionally.
What makes EFSA special as a workplace?
For me, it is EFSA’s collaborative and welcoming culture. Every day offers opportunities to learn from colleagues with diverse backgrounds, exchange ideas and contribute to meaningful projects that can make a real impact. The openness, support and shared passion for science create an environment where you feel valued and can continue to grow both professionally and personally. Starting alongside many other trainees from across Europe also made it easy to build lasting friendships and learn from different scientific disciplines, cultures and perspectives.
What is it like living in Parma?
Beyond work, I enjoy life in Parma, a charming Italian city known for its food, culture and quality of life. Its location also makes it easy to explore both the mountains and the sea, adding another dimension to what has been a very enriching experience.
