Flexibility at work

The EU institutions offer a modern workplace where autonomy is the norm. You also benefit from a legally protected right to disconnect and the chance to work from your home country for a certain number of days each year. We make every effort to prioritise your well-being as much as your impact.

Working arrangements are generally based on a decision adopted by each EU institution. Key features include

  • most institutions offer hybrid working arrangements (typically between 20% and 60% telework)
  • a set number of days a year to telework from abroad to support family life
  • the recognition of the ‘right to disconnect’ as a fundamental health and safety principle in all EU workplaces
  • a standard 40-hour working week with flexible working time arrangements

I find the working culture modern and flexible. We use hot-desking in an open-plan office, and colleagues have significant flexibility in balancing office presence and teleworking. This helps many colleagues in having a good work–life balance.
